Is technology taking over???

Is technology taking over everything we do and can we really run our lives from the hair dressers?

A couple of weeks ago I had my regular appointment at my hair dressers in Cheltenham for ‘colour, cut and finish’. I must explain, a visit to my hair dressers is an experience in itself, when you arrive you are immediately asked would you like a drink and the drinks card is offered to you, with an array of drinks many restaurants would be jealous of. They don’t have a drinks licence so the pink champagne I was sipping on minutes later was complimentary.
Before your stylist starts on your hair you are treated to a head massage. Relaxing music fills the room and you are transported into an ambiance of fragrance and calm. Well this is with the exception of the hands massaging your head like it was the last balloon from the party weeks ago, you know the one, no matter what you do with it, it will not burst. So it got me thinking could the hairdressers be the ideal location for cash rich, time poor people to work from and in turn would this give them more free time or just the ability to multi skill and the impatience when others cannot match their talent! With their free internet access, champagne and coffee on a constant flow this was the perfect place to communicate from.

So there I sat, with foil and colour sticking out of my head making me look like the emperoress from planet Zorg on her wedding day, when the text alert on my phone went off. Within two minutes I was texting three ways. One with my husband in Gloucester who was having problems finding Autoglass; the Sat Nav was unable to pick up the new roads. Once again thank you technology what ever happened to a map and directions.

A second to my mother in Cambridge quizzing me about my arrangements to fly out to Hamburg for Easter and a third to my cousin in Hamburg who can’t buy any Cabury’s products in Germany and was pleading with me to bring a ton of cream eggs over in my hand luggage to give her Easter a touch of British tradition.

That then reminded me that I had not found a suitable bag for my travels I sparked up my laptop (Still in the hairdressers!!) and searched the web for the elusive bag that would fit Ryanair’s stingy hand luggage allowance. Within minutes I found a bag that would hold 150 cream eggs and five pairs of knickers, perfect. I sent a text to my cousin, checked in on line, confirmed delivery details for the luggage and was promptly moved to the wash basin for the final leg of the appointment.

Two and a half hours later I emerged with bright colours and a sweeping fringe, my husband arrives to pick me up and says, ‘Well sweeping fringe while you have been sat relaxing my feet have not touched the ground’. I laughed to myself and wondered if he had in fact found Autoglass without throwing my Sat Nav out of the window at a unknown location not recognised by today’s technology.

So it got me thinking, what will I do with all my free time I have created? I know, I will get my nails done, ‘See you later!’ I said to my husband as he dropped me of at the nail salon.
But what will you do with yours? May be you will bin technology and get back to nature and visit the spring garden show at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern or just walk the hills... it’s your choice. Either way we look forward to welcoming you to the Abbey Hotel and have a package to suite all pockets and needs. So grab your mobile or book on line (if you are having your hair done!) and tell us how you would like your stay to be.
