Valentines Day originates from 270Ad and the tradition is still carried through to the present day. Claudius the Emperor of Rome ordered that no marriages were to be carried out as all married men did not want go to battle and leave their wives and families and the young men did not want to leave their sweethearts, consequently there was not enough soldiers. Priest Valentine continued in secret to perform marriages. As a result Priest Valentine was taken to the dungeons and there he died. His devoted friends buried him at the church of St Praxedes which you can still visit today. This happened on the 14th February 270 AD.
