My duties as a chorister include singing at the 9 and 11 O’clock Mass on Sunday mornings and sometimes at the Tuesday and Thursday midweek evening services. In addition the Choir sings at other major events during the church year such as Christmas Carol services, Easter services and at a number of different Conventions.
The choir is made up of students, mothers, fathers, career men/women and Pastors, who all have a passion for singing the Gospel. Being a chorister entails quite a lot of practice, we meet for rehearsals every Saturday afternoon, in preparation for mass on Sunday. Our choir director teaches us the songs and the different parts we need to sing i.e. Soprano, Alto and Tenor (I sing soprano). It’s quite amazing how our different voices come together in unity to make such a beautiful choir. I must say though, after several hours of rehearsal on a Saturday we don’t always get it right Sunday morning. The congregation is always ready to let us know when we get it wrong, and we are motivated to practice even more to get it right the next time.
We sing a wide range of hymns along with a number of contemporary Gospel Songs composed by renowned Gospel Choirs like Hillsong, Brooklyn Tabernacle, and Lakewood Church Choir etc. Not only do I have a passion for the Gospel, these songs also minister to me spiritually and lead me into a place of worship where I can enjoy the presence of God.
