Elgar's been in the news because it's the 150th anniversary of his birth. Perhaps you saw the article in the Daily Telegraph travel section last Saturday 2nd June or have enjoyed the free CD of the Enigma Variations.
We all recognise Elgar from the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. There's an Elgar trail, visiting his birthplace and various key sites, as well as his grave, which is at St Wulstan's RC Church in Little Malvern.
Archbishop of Birmingham, Vincent Nicolls (a keen Liverpool FC supporter - like our beloved General Manager at The Abbey, Patrick Jones) celebrated Mass there last week in honour of Sir Edward Elgar.
Shame that the travel writer from the Telegraph didn't stay at The Abbey and experience the refurbished bedrooms and lounges but I'm sure they'll get chance soon!
