Peace and quiet...

Whilst walking on the Malvern Hills last week, I started thinking how precious peace and quiet is. The “hills” change daily, in their colours and textures, and the view never ceases to impress. You could walk the hills weekly and each time have a different experience with different photos. So when people ask, has ‘Britain Got Talent?’ I think of the hills and the talent Britain has for amazing countrysides, and not the TV show.

Over the past few weeks it has been far from quiet, the country has been gripped by the reports by the media, and the numbers have been dwindling on a daily bases. No, I am not talking about Gordon’s cabinet, I mean the reality TV show Britain’s got talent. Thankfully my household was spared the constant bombardment of singing contests and clown shows due to the fact I am the only female in the house, and thus football and the grand prix are the order of the day. That is until the Apprentice or The Restaurant appear on screen and then if any of us miss an episode, it really is the end of the world as we know it.

So last week I started to wonder, are we happy with the PM using the latest talent show and popular internet websites to run the country? He showed the public his talent for keeping in touch with the country; this took the form of a phone call to the runner-up of one of those mind numbing shows. I started to consider how Westminster was similar to the Big Brother house (yet another reality TV show.)

Last week we probably saw more ministers leave the cabinet than we saw contestants become house mates in the Big Brother house. With the spotlight on the PM and the house mates, 24 hours a day, it won’t be long before they all wished they were up on the hills with me, sipping on a cool bottle of Malvern water and eating the packed lunch carefully prepared by chef. So, if you would like to claim your allocation of peace and quiet then head over to the Abbey Hotel, where we will introduce you to our talented countryside and of course chef’s packed lunch.

Oh yes, what do you think Sir Alan was doing last week when he was sighted at Westminster? Do you think pointed his finger and said those dreaded words, Gordon..... you’re fired!!
