In 1960, the brilliant and popular children’s author, Roald Dahl and his family settled in the beautiful village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire. It was here at the ‘Gipsy House,’ in a small hut at the bottom of the garden, that he created his unforgettable stories that are still as popular today as they ever were.
Only a 15 minute drive away from The Bull Hotel in Gerrards Cross, through the beautiful Buckinghamshire landscape, Great Missenden is a quintessential English village. Within it is the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, a charity established in 2001 with the aim of setting up a centre to tell Roald Dahl’s life story, to care for his archive and to promote a love of creative writing in everyone. The centre boasts the award of the Best Small Visitors Attraction for 2008.
At this great little museum, aimed at 6 to 12 year-olds and their families, visitors can find out about Roald Dahl’s life and stories using touch-screen monitors, hands-on exhibits and games, and join in storytelling and craft sessions. You can also relax in Café Twit with an Italian coffee or delicious organic juice or smoothie.

Then at around midday wonder down to the bottom of the beautiful gardens in The Bull Hotel with a Gin and Tonic – as Dahl did in his own gardens every day and see what your imagination and creative skills can come up with!!
