Living a brief 15 minute walk from where you work is definitely a luxury, and if you have enjoyed this luxury all of your working life, then you certainly become accustomed to it and stop being thankful for it!
Having always been within walking distance of work, my decision to start working in London and hence commuting to and from Brighton on a daily basis seemed a little crazy. But then again, supposedly everything happens in London and if you want to work at some of the more reputable hotels, then you have to make the sacrifice.
Although Brighton is a lovely and beautiful town, it just doesn’t have the same buzz or excitement that the big smoke offers. Working in London has certainly proved to be a very different ball game which I would definitely recommend.
I am the Revenue Manager at The Rembrandt Hotel, part of the Sarova Hotel Group. My main responsibilities include setting short and long term selling strategies for both the bedrooms and conference departments. I try my best to maximise the hotel’s revenue across all channels as well as manage and develop a team of 5 lovely young ladies.
Whilst it is still very early days in my commuting career, I am quite sure that the 80 minute commute will start taking its toll quite soon, but so far the enjoyment is far outweighing the exhaustion of the journey!
