
The Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy has been held annually since the its foundation in 1768 to honour Royal Academicians who have died in the past year and this year it remembers Sandra Blow RA and Kyffin Williams RA. The exhibition attracts thousands of entries and the majority of the works displayed are for sale.
This year the exhibition's theme is "Light". A 12m x 4.5m (40ft x 15ft) painting by David Hockney entitled "Bigger Trees Near Water" will be displayed. It is made up of 50 small canvasses and is the largest painting ever shown at the exhibition we well as being Hockney's largest ever work.
